Alpha came to me as a Craigslist rescue. Her former home was not the safest for her, and luckily her previous owners decided to give her up. She was a beautiful Kelpie mix, with smart eyes and her left ear bent. She was neglected and abused and this showed through her interactions with other people. Regardless of her trauma, she stood by my side through one of the hardest times in my life. I was alone, having left a tumultuous relationship. She brought out the best in me, pushing me to run Lake Merritt with her and hike the San Joaquin trails. I will always remember her silly moments and protective nature. She is the only reason why I was able to make it through my rough days. Before she passed, she made such incredible progress in her training and was able to bond with the few people she allowed into her life. She was taken away tragically and unexpectedly. She will forever be my baby girl, my guardian spirit.

Shadow was the most loving boy. He adored his mommy and his favorite thing was to cuddle with me. He got angry when I didn’t immediately accommodate him. But the reward was a look of pure love and happiness in his eyes. He quite possibly loved me more than anyone in the world. He also enjoyed playing with his little fuzzy balls, carrying them around and talking to them like they were his children. He left a gigantic hole in my life and will forever be loved and missed.

There's never a day that I don't think of you. It's still hard to think that you're no longer here with me physically, but I hope you're happy wherever you are. I hope you're enjoying your favorite meal of chicken and mashed potatoes, and I hope you're getting all the pets you need until we meet again. The ten years we had together is something I will always cherish and carry with me in my heart. Thank you for choosing me not only as your owner, but as your best friend.
